At the tender age of 5 I developed an obsession with a particular LP owned by my parents. That album was 'Queen - Greatest Hits Vol. 1', and from that time onwards Rock music has been a part of my life.
At school I was introduced to two bands which pretty much defined my adolescence and shaped my musical tastes to come - Prodigy and Nirvana.
Towards the end of my teenage years I found that my tastes in music were developing, and new, darker sounds began to inspire me - the relentless techno-inspired riffery of Fear Factory, the industrial punk sneer of late Pitchshifter, the hardcore punk of Pennywise, Sick of it All and Suicidal Tendencies.
As my library of music expanded I embraced thrash metal, death metal, grindcore, doom, stoner and a whole host of other styles, and given my penchant for ridiculously heavy music, my addition to the Nine Hundred More stable may be a bit of an oddity.
However, there is one thing I would highlight as an underlying quality which most of my favourite music has - high energy. Hence, while you may not hear any death grunts or blastbeat drumming from this band's direction, I for one feel right at home belting out a bass riff regardless of the overall style provided it gets people moving.
When I first took on the role of bass player for NHM, I had already a few years mucking about with a six-string guitar, but never really got the hang of it. However, after standing at the helm of a Trace Elliot amp for the first time I knew that the bass was my preferred instrument.
Despite having spent a couple of years away from the other guys, I can gladly say that it feels damn good to be back in the fold again.
